Update your LinkedIn profile

How to maximise your LinkedIn profile.

Job Search

LinkedIn can be a land of opportunity – be it potential job opportunities, building a network or creating a new business.
So here’s some simple ideas to tweak your profile so it’s optimised for success and stands out against the plethora of job hunters right now:

Below are some key tips we often suggest to our candidates:

Keywords.

What sorts of terms would recruiters use when looking for a candidate with your skill-set? Focus on the technical competencies you have rather than soft skills. For example: Salesforce rather than Leadership, and us this wording as often in your profile as you can.

Get Endorsed.

Reach out to your colleagues and network to get endorsed for your skills as many times as possible. Again focus on technical skills and competencies rather than soft skills, and includes proficiencies with software, platforms and programs.

Be seen.

You need to be an active member of the community. This means creating your own content, commenting on others and liking posts. The more often you engage with the platform the more your activity will rise up in the algorithms.

It's all in the name.

The phrase that sits just below your name is the most highly rated index for search on LinkedIn, so it’s important to use this to your best advantage. Don’t think of this as your job title – but as a personal description in 120 characters. For example, if you are an aspiring Account Manager wanting ot build your career in Social Media, your headline could be *Account Manager *Social Media Specialist *Content Creator.

Say Cheese.

We all know you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover…but subconsciously most people do. So make sure your profile photo (which is crucial) is modern, professional and engaging. No couple, kids or pets to be included.

Salary.

It’s advisable not to bring up salary during an interview. Leave that to your recruiter.

Question Time.

Make sure you have at least two questions about the role to show that you are genuinely interested in the role and have considered it carefully. Focus these questions on the work that you will be employed to do and prospects for growth and promotion.
